One Symbol, One Identity
The anchor stands out in the design because it is the symbol of salvation; its shape recalls the cross, our only hope. It is the cross that “sustains” the world, and in it, the world finds its security.
Through the “unsearchable ways of wisdom” of Divine Providence, the Sisters of St. Ann are associated with this work of salvation. In fact, the acronym of the Congregation (SSA) appears at the base of the anchor’s shank: every Sister of St. Ann is called to be a sign of Providence for all humankind.
The Elements and Colors
- The Globe: Humanity is entirely enclosed within the stylized world, featuring blue lines—blue being the color characteristic of humanity.
- The Anchor-Cross: The color of the anchor/cross is warm. The three flukes (arms) are red, symbolizing the Trinity. They point upward like arrows directed toward a single goal: human happiness. The red of the flukes (representing love) gradually fades into orange and yellow, because the love of the Trinity is the light of the world.
- The Motto: The inscription “IN SPE” (In Hope) is the motto of the Founders. It encapsulates the gift of the Spirit that Carlo and Giulia received to cooperate in the salvation of humanity and to walk the path of holiness.
